Flagstaff and Williams area Fishing Report

Fishing is still excellent at Kaibab Lake and Dogtown Lake right now. Folks are catching big trout on Lower Lake Mary early in the morning and late in the evening out of boats and float tubes. Remember Knoll Lake is Closed to access because of the HighLine Fire Dogtown Lake is fishing well with some really nice rainbows being caught.  Folks are catching fish on green garlic powerbait or lures and flies.  Kaibab Lake received a bonus stocking of Channel Catfish on last Tuesday and another load last Friday. Williams/Flagstaff Fishing Report – Kaibab Lake and Lower Lake Mary are hot!!!!

          Lower Lake Mary – Folks are catching limits of large trout on Lower Lake Mary using worms, powerbait, or small lures.  We are hearing reports of fish up to 21 inches out of the lake with lots of fish over 13 inches. Kaibab Lake – Kaibab got a load of 9,000 bonus Rainbow Trout from Colorado on Saturday along with 6,000 Rainbows from our hatcheries in the last 2 weeks.  Fishing is better than excellent according to one angler I talked to this week.  Folks were catching fish on green garlic powerbait and salmon egg powerbait.  Worms, flies...

I also managed to catch a 11-pound, 29-inch catfish that hit worms on the bottom (my shoe size is 14 for comparison). I also fished Lower Lake Mary this morning and quickly caught my limit using orange PowerBait and small Rapala minnows. The largest fish was just over 20 inches. Largest was over 18 inches and several over 17. Fished worms under a bobber (old school still works). Several others fishing the lake and all catching. Region 2 Fishing Report 5/17/17 Dogtown Lake I was on Dogtown Saturday afternoon talking to anglers. With the high winds everyone was fishing around the point near the day-use area. Folks were catching fish green garlic powerbait on Saturday. Jeffrey F. was fishing the middle of the day on Monday and caught this 23.5 inch rainbow. Region 2 Fishing Report 5/3/17 We expect first stockings of Channel Catfish in  in Frances Short Pond and City Reservoir in  about 2 weeks. Dogtown Lake Folks were catching fish powerbait on Sunday when my coworker was there fishing unfortunately he didn’t talk to anyone and couldn’t see the color. I would try garlic powerbait in a green or rainbow. He was catching fish from his boat using flies. He was fishing them as slow as he could move them. Flagstaff Williams Fishing Report

Dogtown Lake Dogtown Lake was stocked with about 5700 catchable (10 inch) so far this year. The hatchery also be stocked 4700 smaller (6 inch) Rainbow Trout 2 weeks ago. The smaller fish needed to be moved from the hatchery to reduce crowding and allow other fish to grow up to size faster. Dogtown is one of the few lakes in the Region in the area that produces enough food to grow these smaller fish. Dogtown Lake Dogtown Lake has not been stocked yet, but should be next week.   Fishing has been slow, but the few holdover fish being caught are nice size fish. Kaibab Lake About 3,200 Rainbow Trout were stocked in Kaibab last week. The lake is still muddy so fishing is probably slow. I would try small silver or gold lures to try and catch the Trout. Fishing yesterday on Lower Lake Mary was epic yesterday.  My coworker caught and released 68 trout yesterday on flies with  size 12 Bead Head Prince Nymph and size 12 Pheasant Tail working best. The fish caught ranged from 10-16 inches.  Other folks were catching trout on small lures. Big Trout being caught at Lower Lake Mary

Lower Lake Mary has had about 9,000 larger (10 + inch) Rainbow Trout stocked in the last week along with about 8600 smaller (6-8 inch) Rainbow Trout. The recent stocking of Rainbow Trout contained some really nice fish with several being caught that measured about 18 inches.   Folks yesterday were catching trout on flies (gold ribbed hairs ears) and small lures.  Some were also being caught on Powerbait.  More stockings are on the way for Lower Lake Mary.
